An advert for a great web host – EvoHosting.co.uk

When I signed up with my web hosting company nearly five years ago, they offered the best service for the price. By the time the last renewal come round though they were useless, so I changed to my current hosts – EvoHosting.co.uk. Why am I giving them free advertising, well last night I couldn’t get my browser to save the password to my control panel, so I opened a ticket with them. They fixed it within 4 hours on a Saturday night. That’s good service! if you want good service from your web host check EvoHosting.co.uk out here!

Cyclists: Lose the attitude and stay alive!

I must admit that I stopped riding my bike a couple of years ago now, after it decided to fall apart like a clown’s comedy car. Around that time I also realised how much better my car was for getting me to university. I now had a comfortable seat, a roof and windows to keep me warm and dry and an engine that meant I wasn’t all hot and sweaty when I finally arrived at university. Now I’m at work I still have no call for a bike, instead walking and using the train. What is my point? Well in…

CallamMcMillan.com Version 6. The challenges of building a custom blogging platform

Today marks a big phase of the development of CallamMcMillan.com in that I have virtually finished all the big outstanding tasks on the public side of the site although there is still quite a lot to do on the private side of the site before I can sit back and say it’s done. When I am ready to publish what you read now, I have to manually insert it into the database that supports this site using my domain administration console. As you can imagine this is hard work and time consuming. If you take a couple of minutes to…

Alternative messages of films – The Shawshank Redemption

All films tend to have a message in them, usually about how the good will always win, however there is usually an alternative message. In the Shawshank Redemption, the main character is sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. While there he uses his skills in finance to help the Warden launder money in return for privileges which he uses to help other inmates prior to escaping with evidence of the crimes. The alternative message is that whatever happens in life, take full advantage of opportunities that present themselves and always keep dirt on those you work with!

Three months to the Olympics… Bring it on!

The last time I went to write about the Olympics my word processor kindly decided to lose all of the work I had done. I hindsight this may have been a good thing since it really wasn’t that good. Having passed the 100 day-to-go milestone last week however marked a good time to look again at a few of my thoughts about London 2012. According to the naysayers, the end of the world is going to be Olympic shaped. Nobody is going to be able to go to work and we are all going to have to sod off abroad…

Lewis Hamilton and the Bahrain Grand Prix

Last week I wrote how I felt sorry for Lewis Hamilton at the Chinese GP for getting penalised because his gearbox broke. This week though I feel sorry for his engineers after the arse kicking they will no doubt be getting for Lewis and Martin Whitmarsh. When something happens once (The rear nearside wheel not doing up on Jenson Button’s car,) it’s unfortunate, if it happens again a second week later, then it looks like carelessness (The same issue on Lewis’ car.) But if it happens a third time then it’s a total disaster and somebody will be receiving a…

Making F1 fairer… A little musing

Hopefully you got to see Sunday’s Grand Prix in China. If not, I suggest that you get onto the BBC iPlayer and take a look as it is well worth investing a couple of hours in watching it. Nico Rosberg claimed a well deserved maiden victory, both for himself and the new Mercedes GP team and Michael Schumacher could well have joined him on the podium had his pit crew actually done his wheel nut up. This got me thinking about a battle that we never got to see – Rosberg vs. Hamilton for the race win. Why? Because Hamilton…

Head protection not needed… There’s nothing inside

News from the Caribbean island of St Maarten where the airport backs onto the beach, meaning that anybody stupid enough can ignore the signs warning of injury and death hang onto the airport fence for dear life while being blasted with the wake from a plane preparing for takeoff. Today’s idiot did exactly that… And lost! Better still there is video of it happening. Ouch. Do you think it hurt?
