Cocks’ of the week: Cardinal Keith O’Brien and Rush Limbaugh

I have neglected this blog a bit, not because there is no stupidity going on, but because there has been nobody worthy enough to make me sit down and write something. All that has changed today though thanks to Cardinal Keith O’Brien, head of the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland and his view of the legalisation of gay marriage, and Rush Limbaugh, some dumb-ass yank DJ and his views on access to contraceptives for medical purposes (aka. Slutgate.)

According to today’s Evening Standard, the cardinal feels that the governments actions are “madness” and a “grotesque subversion of a universally accepted human right.” I am not sure I follow him here. You mean the human right of freedom of religion, which isn’t being altered or you mean the human right for freedom to a family life, which the cardinal would deny to many couples. Anyway, talking of human rights, what about the right of young kids not to be molested by members of the Roman Catholic Church? Oh wait, god hates gays, but religious paedophiles are ok!

Then we have Rush Limbaugh who manages to represent the way the USA is perceived in many parts of the world. While Sandra Fluke, a law student was testifying to congress how her Roman Catholic college denied her access to drugs with a contraceptive effect, leading to her losing an ovary based on the colleges personal beliefs (Surely grounds for a well deserved multi-million dollar lawsuit?) Rush meanwhile decided to call her a “slut” and a “prostitute” and that she was asking taxpayers to pay for her to have sex, and that if they did she should post videos online?! Not sure how you answer that, but surely this guy can’t represent the USA, and if he does, then perhaps we should erect a fence around the USA and quarantine it for the next hundred years or so?

To be honest, I don’t honestly believe that the government is going far enough in legalising gay marriage, the institution of marriage is so hopelessly religious that it should be abolished all together. A marriage should be defined as a union between any number of people both male or female. People should be encouraged to have as much (safe) sex as they can, they should be able to have free access to contraception and while it’s not ideal, access to easy abortions too; and to hell with what the church thinks because we give far too much respect to the religious nuts.

So who is worse, O’Brien or Limbaugh, leave your answers in the comments below, or failing that would you rather just give them both a bar of slippery soap and a day pass to some hard-ass prison?
